FameLab is a UK-wide competition to find the new voices of science and engineering. Over the autumn 2014 and spring 2015, FameLab UK heats will be happening up and down the country. Scientists with a gift for creating an engaging story around their research will have just 3 minutes to explain a concept in science, maths or engineering to an audience and a panel of judges. Whether you’re a contestant or an audience member, FameLab UK brings people together who are passionate about science and want to share it with the world.
The Oxford heats will be taking place at the St Aldate’s Tavern in January and February 2015. The top three scientists from each heat will go on to compete in the Oxford FameLab final in March 2015. The UK final is held in London in April 2015 and the winner will go on to participate in FameLab International.
In 2014, we had two competitors in the FameLab UK national final: Jonny Brookes-Bartlett (mathematician) and Becky Smethurst (astrophysicist). Both did an amazing job of talking engagingly about their research: so much so that they became joint runners-up. Both have gone on to do other science engagement performances since.
