  • Networking for DPhil Students
    Thursday 2nd May, 15.30-17.00
    This workshop will cover how to make contacts, how to approach people, what to say, how to follow up and will include tips for shy networkers.
  • CVs and Cover Letter Skills for DPhil Students
    Friday 31st May, 9.30-12.00
    This workshop covers job search techniques as well as how to produce effective CVs, applications and cover letters.
  • Interview Skills for DPhil Students
    Tuesday 11th June, 14.30-17.00
    This workshop focuses on understanding interview processes, effective preparation for interviews and tackling difficult interview questions.

  • Applying for Academic Positions in the USA
    Monday 13th May, 14.15-15.45
    This information session is run by our visiting careers adviser from the University of Berkeley. It is an information session providing an overview of the elements needed, and process of applying for, academic positions in the US, as well as effective preparation for interviews and negotiation. There is minimal overlap with the following two workshops which look in depth at preparing applications and for interview for academic jobs (with the focus on the UK, touching on the US.)
  • Academic Application Skills for Science Researchers
    Friday 17th May, 14.30-17.30
    This workshop covers academic CV, cover letter and interview skills for science researchers.
  • Academic Application Skills for Humanities and Social Science Researchers
    Tuesday 21st May, 9.30-12.30
    Monday 10th June, 16.00-17.30
    Two academics talk about their experiences as women in academia with time for questions and networking.

4) ADDITIONAL EVENTS FOR RESEARCHERS

  • MBTI for researchers
    Friday 31st May, 13.30-16.30
    This workshop will give you an insight into your own personality using the MBTI. This framework can help you to gain a better understanding of your natural preferences which can help you to identify the types of work and working environments that you may enjoy.
  • Portfolio Careers for Researchers
    Thursday 6th June, 15.30-18.00
    This session will explain what portfolio careers are, their advantages and disadvantages, why they might appeal to researchers, and help you explore whether or not you have the attributes and interests to succeed as a portfolio worker. Featuring speakers who have gone from research to portfolio careers.

5) APPOINTMENTS FOR RESEARCHERS

  • Appointments are available at the Careers Service. Drop in or book 15 minute appointments through  Career Connect or call reception on 01865 274646 to request a long discussion with Careers Advisers for Researchers, Claire Conway or Rachel Walls.
  • Appointments are also available with Rachel at the WIMM, JR Hospital, on Tuesday afternoons once a month: call reception for appointments on the 14th May.
  • Also at OCDEM, Churchill Hospital with Claire Conway on Thursday mornings once a month. Next session will be held on the 30th May.
